GOLDCORP IN GUATEMALA: Despite the despites, the struggle for human rights and the environment continues

Grahame Russell from Rights Action reports on the mounting tensions in Guatemala, as the Canadian mining company Goldcorp tries to expand its Marlin Mine into the community of Sacmuj.

Russell claims that despite many different factors such as evidence that the Marlin mine in Guatemala has caused environmental and health damages to the community of Sacmuj, despite the overwhelming resistance of the Sacmuj community to the expansion of the Goldcorp mine, despite the fact that the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights has ordered the suspension of this particular mining operation,  among other factors, “Goldcorp is again trying to expand its mining operation in the lands of the small community of Sacmuj, and the vulnerable, poor villagers continue to resist – in defense of their lives and environment.”
