Foreign Aid Spending Hit Hard By Federal Budget

On March 4th, Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty announced that there will be no further planned increases to foreign aid spending. Consequently, even with the 8% increase for the 2010/11 fiscal year, Canada performance in terms of foreign aid spending places us only 18th of 22 donor countries. Gerry Barr, President-CEO of the Canadian Council for International Cooperation (CCIC) calls this an “international embarrassment” that shows “a lack of leadership and is unconscionable.”
